Safety for Female Travellers Course

Aim of the course: The Safety for Female Travellers Course prepares you to deal with sexual harassment and sexual assault when working and travelling abroad.

You gain insight in different factors that influence the gender relations in specific cultures. The course raises your awareness of the choices you have in dealing with sexual aggression. You learn to verbally and physically communicate clearly and appropriately in case of sexual harassment.

Method: Strong emphasis on interaction and practical exercises. As this is a woman-only workshop, the trainer is female (the actor is male). The training is conducted in a safe learning environment.

  • You have gained insight in sexual aggression and know how to lower the risk of being involved.
  • You are aware of the different forms of sexual harassment and know what to do if this happens to you or a colleague.
  • You have gained insight in the impact of culture and gender relations. You are most aware of the choices you have in dealing with these relations (adaptations versus own norms and values).
  • You have practiced several techniques to free yourself from holds, and know what you can do to immobilize an attacker. You are aware of the risks if you try to free yourself.
  • You know how to prepare yourself before travelling and you know how you can diminish risks concerning sexual harassment and assault.
  • You can describe what you can do after sexual harassment and sexual assault.
